Terms of use

The ground rules for using clearlanecyber.com. Our client services are covered by a separate written agreement.

Effective October 16, 2026 · Last updated October 16, 2026

1. Accepting these terms

These Terms of Use govern your use of clearlanecyber.com and any content, guides or tools we make available on it (together, the "Site"), operated by ClearLane Cyber LLC ("ClearLane Cyber," "we," "us" or "our"). By using the Site, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use the Site on behalf of a company, you agree on its behalf. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. Information, not advice

Everything on the Site, including articles, guides, checklists, self-assessments and briefings, is general information about cybersecurity. It is not professional, legal, insurance or compliance advice for your situation, and it is not a substitute for an assessment of your environment. Using the Site, downloading a guide or contacting us does not create a client relationship. A client relationship begins only when you and ClearLane Cyber sign a written agreement, and that agreement, not these terms, governs our services.

If you are dealing with an active security incident, contact your incident response provider, cyber insurance carrier and, where appropriate, law enforcement right away.

3. Using the Site

You may use the Site for lawful business and informational purposes. You agree not to:

  • Scan, probe, test or attempt to breach the security of the Site or its hosting providers without our prior written permission
  • Upload or send malware, or interfere with the Site's operation
  • Scrape or harvest content or contact information by automated means
  • Submit false information or impersonate any person or company
  • Use the Site or our content to build a competing service or to mislead others about a relationship with us

4. Reporting a vulnerability

We welcome good-faith security reports. If you believe you've found a vulnerability in the Site, email security@clearlanecyber.com with enough detail for us to reproduce it. Please give us reasonable time to fix it before disclosing it publicly, and do not access, change or delete data that isn't yours, degrade the Site, or use social engineering. We will acknowledge your report and will not pursue legal action against research that follows these guidelines.

5. Our content and brand

The Site and its content, including text, guides, graphics, the ClearLane Cyber name, the shield logo and the tagline "Keep freight moving. Keep it secure.", are owned by ClearLane Cyber or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. You may view, download and share our guides within your own organization for internal, non-commercial use, as long as you keep our name and copyright notice on them. Any other use, including republishing, selling or creating derivative works, requires our written permission.

6. What you send us

Please do not send passwords, credentials, network details or other confidential or sensitive information through the Site's forms or by unsolicited email. Until we have a written agreement in place, we cannot treat that information as confidential client information. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without obligation to you.

The Site links to third-party websites, sources and services. We provide them for convenience only and are not responsible for their content, security or privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement, and we do not receive referral fees from any vendor we mention.

8. Disclaimers

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT FOLLOWING ANY CONTENT WILL PREVENT A SECURITY INCIDENT. CYBER THREATS CHANGE QUICKLY, AND CONTENT MAY BE OUT OF DATE WHEN YOU READ IT.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CLEARLANE CYBER AND ITS MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA OR BUSINESS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($100). THESE LIMITS DO NOT APPLY TO OUR CLIENT SERVICES, WHICH ARE GOVERNED BY THE APPLICABLE WRITTEN AGREEMENT.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and indemnify ClearLane Cyber against claims, losses and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of the Site or your violation of these terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute relating to the Site will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the City of Lynchburg, Virginia, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

12. Changes and general terms

We may update these terms from time to time by posting a new version with a new "last updated" date. Your continued use of the Site after a change means you accept it. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site.
